John Machado joined Chaffey College in 2005. After completing undergraduate work in art history at San Diego State University he earned his graduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin specializing in the culture and art history of Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. He has worked at various museums and galleries and taught art history at universities and colleges in California, Oregon and Texas. Machado teaches courses in art history covering the complete Western survey as well as the Ancient Americas, Africa and the islands of the South Pacific. He also has a passion for seeing the world and has traveled extensively throughout the Americas and Europe.

In 2015 Machado returned to graduate school to attain a Master’s in Arts Management from Claremont Graduate University, Drucker School of Management. In 2016 he founded The Arts Area, a California Nonprofit Corporation providing professional development, community advocacy, and resource support for the creative industries of the Inland Empire of Southern California. Improving academic and economic opportunities for artists and students in the region through collaborations with local schools, arts organizations, and businesses.

In October 2017, The Arts Area launched the Inland Empire Arts Directory.
